Engineering Thermodynamics is concerned with energy transformation and utilization. The key of the subject is the analysis of any energy process, determining the variation of the thermophysical properties of the fluids involved and applying energy, entropy and exergy balances. Basic air-conditioning processes are also studied. Examples and study cases about heat to mechanical/electric power conversion are analysed.

EThis course introduces the student to the basic concepts of corporate finance, and some elements of Capital Projects, developing further those aspects which are more relevant to engineering.
The course gets deep into the fundamentals of financial management and capital budgeting, by using skills and techniques previously learnt in engineering school.
During the course, students will learn about the time value of money, how to interpret and analyze financial statements, to forecast cash flows, to valuate investment projects, to compromise between risk and return, to make complex economic projections, to prepare budgets and to manage the net†working capital, among other relevant issues.

DIM-SAP-337 Introduction to Materials and their Applications
The course introduces the student to the following topics: Structure of materials, chemical composition, phase transformations, corrosion and mechanical properties of metals, the failure of materials, ceramics, polymers and related materials. Methodologies for material selection in engineering applications is also emphasized. In addition to lectures the students will attend one fifty minute demonstration/recitation session per week. These sessions are required are intended to demonstrate the concepts covered in the lectures.

DMA-SAP-241 Multivariable Calculus
The most important topics of this course are Vectors and coordinate geometry in 3-space; vector functions and curves; partial differentiation; applications to partial derivatives; multiple integration. The ideas of the vector calculus apply to numerous areas of human knowledge such as engineering, physics, pure mathematics, biology, and many others. Mathematical software will be used during the lectures.

The target of this course is to provide a description about of the most important numerical methods to approximate solutions of linear systems, nonlinear equations and nonlinear systems of equations, to optimize and interpolate functions, to approximate integrals and solutions of initial value problems and boundary value problems for ODEs and PDEs. In each numerical method the algorithm, accuracy, conditioning, stability and rate of convergence will be analyzed and the implementation with the software Matlab will be carried out.

DEA-OPT-438 Aerospace Electronics
This course provides an overview of the electronic systems and equipment found in spacecraft developments such as power, data handling, and instrumentation. The course also intends as well to provide an overview on cost impacts derived from design and development activities. A visit to SENER facilities is included, to provide an overview of the development facilities (assembly and testing) but as well to have a working day on a true environment with dedicated engineering support from experts in the area.
